The primary area of expertise has been in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee; however, geographical experience includes the Southeast as well as 30+ states across the United States.
The company was established in 1892 in Atlanta as the Cliff C. Hatcher Insurance Agency. The name was changed to Hatcher and Dunlap in 1895. The company represented and served as mortgage correspondent for the Travelers Insurance Company, The Fireman's Fund Insurance Company, United States Casualty Company, American Surety Company and other insurance carriers. The company was incorporated March 26, 1925, as Dargan, Venerable & Whitington, Inc. The name was changed to Dargan, Whitington and Conner, Inc. on January 1, 1932.
The company was a charter member of the Atlanta Mortgage Bankers Association and served as mortgage correspondent for the Travelers Insurance Company for more than 75 years. Dargan, Whitington & Conner, Inc., was purchased by Cone M. Maddox, III in 1966, and the name was changed to Dargan, Whitington & Maddox, Inc. in May, 1987.
